2018 was like a dream. 9 unique wedding celebrations, 7 sold out workshops, 4 photography festivals and one powerful little light brought us (and our kids) on a wild ride across 10 countries on 3 continents. Along the way, our lives brushed up against so many beautiful souls. We’re living a dream and this post is a tribute to that which makes it all possible… the couples and families who trust in the way we see and feel.
Below are some of our (and your) favourites from our year in wedding photography. This is just the glistening tip, of course, of a deep iceberg. For a deeper, more meaningful dive into the heart and soul of these diverse weddings, strap in for the full stories here…
Jocelyn & Sean in Maui, Hawaii – When a scuba photographer from Hong Kong marries an architect from Dubai on a tropical island in the Pacific.
Michelle & Jared on Bainbridge Island, Washington – Down-to-Earth outdoor hippy wedding amongst nature’s organic embrace.
Flossie & Keith in Hong Kong – Extravagant awe-inspiring wedding amongst Hong Kong’s high society.
Shreya & Mano in Hyderabad, India – Multi-day Telugu wedding extravaganza in the heart of India.
Anna & Brian in Baltimore, Maryland – Fun, celebratory wedding with an emotionally wrenching story.
Dee & Zack in Golden, British Columbia – Super chill, disastrously perfect hell-of-a-heli wedding in the mountains of Canada.
Michelle & Dan in Banff, Alberta – Epic portraits amongst the grandeur of the Canadian Rockies.
Beth & Chad in Emerald Isle, North Carolina – Wedding photography super duo’s beach wedding in the wake of a hurricane.
Our 2018 would not have been possible without a lot of help from cherished friends. Mariya Besidina (Two Mann Mission Control) helped us make sure each and every one of our clients received the ultimate experience, start to finish. No matter where Erika and I were in the world, Mariya had every one of our past, current, and future clients in competent, caring hands. DVLOP revolutionized our post-production in 2018 (these are our very own editing presets that we actually use). The Image Salon allowed us to have and enjoy our life again this year (our editor there has become an instrumental part of our team). Profoto brought us along on this wild adventure in India (every flash lit photo we made in 2018 was with their lights). Fundy Designer helped us design beautiful albums for our clients (and shared wine with us in Italy, espresso with us in Portland, and a terrifying skydiving experience with us 13,000 feet above the ground). Graphi Studios brought our work to life in prints and albums for our clients (and lent us their castle in Italy for one of our workshops). Joseph Radhik brought us to Mumbai for PEP 2018, Christiaan De Groot brought us to Amsterdam for Masters of Wedding Photography, and Profoto brought us us to Germany for Way Up North and Photokina. Fearless Photographers continued to redefine wedding photography across the globe (we are honoured to be a part of that community and to have both been individually recognized as two of the Top Wedding Photographers in the World again in 2018). Abby, Dave, Jenn, and Jeff helped us sift for gold. Henry XU made one of our favourite photos of 2018 (it even made it in here)! Clark Lai at Motiv Studio built and maintained this dream website (and helped you find it on Google). And finally, most importantly, lovers and photographers around the world gifted us their trust.
