Apart from the fact that we have been looking up to Lanny & Erika as mentors (even though they didn’t know it then) ever since we began our foray into professional wedding photography, here are a few points that drove us to finally making up our mind into investing in the Two Mann workshop. We were seeking clarity. Wedding photography is not just limited to the day of shooting, but begins at the first moment that a prospective client comes across your images, and that association continues long after the shoot, after the final image is delivered, as we intend to leave behind the legacy of a wedding story told through photographs. We were seeking clarity on how to make our photographs, our client interaction (online and offline) and our methodology a reflection of us – of who we are as people. We wanted someone to ask us difficult questions, which would lead us to this clarity, and we thought there could be no one better suited to do this than Lanny and Erika. We always want to keep moving forward. We adore Lanny & Erika’s work – it inspires us to do better. Lanny & Erika’s innovative technique, their dedication to the creation of an image and their drive for excellence comes across in every image that they put out. We found these qualities aspirational. As one gains more and more experience, there is always a danger of being comfortable with status quo. We fear reaching this state of comfort. We always want to keep driving ourselves forward, and we believed this workshop would help us understand how to keep doing that. We got everything we were looking for, and then some more. In addition to sharpening our technical skills when it comes to lighting, composition; Lanny & Erika have opened up our minds and enabled us to shoot in a way that reminds the bride and groom what it felt like, versus what it just looked like. We have come back with a strong sense of clarity and purpose, and a confidence in our own abilities which translates to every client interaction. We’ve also made some new friends – the other workshop participants, all amazing photographers in their own right, who continue to inspire us.
