The more we travel this big, wide world, the more we realize that the Canadian Rockies (our home, sweet home) is indisputably one of the most spectacular places on Earth; unparalleled and unplucked. Such is that when Dan asked us to commemorate his and Michelle’s first ever Canadian Rockies experience with a surprise portrait session (Dan’s an ambitious romantic) in our very own backyard, we said, “Fucken’eh!“
We first met Sara and Adam while photographing Justine + Lee’s wedding at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Sara was one of Justine’s bridesmaids and was very memorable as she sang beautifully during their mountain top ceremony. We met for their engagement shoot, on an early September morning. On route to the location that we had in mind, a rainbow appeared. We quickly decided to pull the car over to the side of the road, snap a few photos of them with, what we thought would be a fleeting rainbow, and continue on with our original plan. 45 minutes later, the rainbow was still full, bright and brilliant. We just couldn’t get enough of it and Sara & Adam’s beautiful smiles. We are very much looking forward to photographing their wedding in Fernie next summer.
We had such a fun evening in Canmore shooting and dining with Anne-Marie and Kovid. Their awesomeness was first revealed the moment that they arrived with Crave Cupcakes in hand. These guys’ love for each other shines through in the way they hold each other, the way they talk to each other and the way they look at each other. And their excitement about their upcoming wedding is undeniable… not only for that which it represents in their lives together… but for the party it will be for all their friends and family, for whom their love is undeniable. And we already feel like their friends…. they had us at Crave Cupcakes. 🙂
It poured rain for Jason and Diana’s engagement session. The type of rain that you get absolutely drenched in. Luckily, this couple look just as good wet, as they do dry. In fact, I would venture to say they’d look good in any and all weather conditions. Thanks for toughing it out long enough for that rainbow, Jason and Diana. We can’t wait for your wedding in August.
Our couples are hard core! That, or INSANE!? We recently tested the fortitude of ourselves, our clients, and our equipment during a recent cold snap in the mountains. These engagement shoots were absolutely freezing, super short, and capped off with hot beverages. Laura & Aaron, Tara & Kevin, and Dominika & John, you guys are beautiful and insane! This is what minus 40 looks like!
We cannot wait for Jamie and Jamshed’s Cowboys & Indians (east Indian) themed wedding next summer. We enjoyed the last of the warm autumn sun with these two in eastern Kananaskis Country. Although you can’t see it in the selecting images below, Jamie has the most amazing blue/green eyes. We took lots of great images showcasing this beautiful feature, but Lanny has a “thing” about sharing images where our subjects are actually looking at the camera. Luckily, our clients get them all. The temperature dropped about 10 degrees once the sun went down, so we headed to Tapas for comfort food and yummy sangria. Thanks for the fun evening, Jamie and Jamshed!
We are so excited to be Malori and Geoff;s photographers for their upcoming winter wedding in Canmore. We had so much fun hanging out with them one morning this fall, amongst the beautiful fall colours. Here are a few of our favourites from that morning. The final image is a 24-frame Bokeh Panorama. Malori and Geoff, we can’t wait to shoot your wedding!
Chantel and Steve’s engagement session(s) began back in June and finished up in September.
It began when our friend and photographer extraordinaire, Paul Zizka, gave us the scoop that things were shaping up for a potential aurora show that night. Lanny was particularly hungry to head out into the night with our cameras and one of our couples. It just so happened that Canmore locals, Chantel and Steve, had just hired us to photograph their 2014 wedding. They had also made the mistake of informing us that they would be “up for anything.” So Lanny called them up at 9 PM to ask if they had any plans for that night (apart from sleeping). Because one of us (me) would have to stay home with the kids, Lanny’s next call was to the first local photographer we could think of, who would be willing to drop anything to come along to assist with lighting. Enter our good friend, Jody Goodwin. 3 hours later, the four of them were out amongst the dark wilderness, shooting away. The aurora display didn’t pan out that night as much as we’d hoped, but they still had fun and came home with some really cool images. Thank you, Jody, for tagging along and helping us out in the cold and dark for 3 hours, without ever losing that beaming smile of yours.
But as for Chantel and Steve, we weren’t done with them yet. Their “actual” engagement session took place just a few weeks ago, when the first snows had just fallen on the still golden larch trees of Kananaskis Country (hey, just noticed that that’s our photo of the smiling skiers on this linked site, by the way). True to form, Chantel and Steve met us at 5:30 AM in order to make the drive deep down in to Kananaskis Country and catch the first light. When they met us in the morning, Chantel had hiking boots on her feet, and curlers still in her hair.
Below are a few of our favourites from both of those crazy sessions, including a couple gigantic Bokeh Panoramas. Chantel and Steve, you two are our kind of clients… up for anything! Thanks for being so awesome.
Tina and Dean travelled all the way from Lethbridge to hang out with us for an evening in Canmore. Somehow, time and time again, we seem to attract the coolest clients. This was our first time meeting Tina and Dean and it was like hanging out with old friends. These two were game for anything, including “frolicking” up a hillside. Their wedding, taking place this February, is sure to be a spectacular affair designed and coordinated by Lynn Fletcher and her amazing team.
We’re really looking forward to Erin and Greg’s wedding next June at Silvertip Resort, right here in Canmore. We met these two love birds at Yamnuska meadows, in the very early morning hours. What was a beautiful sunrise, turned into a cloudy morning. We had nothing but their gorgeous smiles and off camera flash to light up these images. Thanks for the fun session guys!
